Best Work

This section of my portfolio will showcase my best work as an EFL literature teacher. First, I included selected lesson plans and materials that I created and taught in an afterschool reading and conversation club. The students were fourth and fifth graders studying at a private elementary school in Seoul. Over the course of 20 weeks, students read The Strange Case of Origami Yoda by Tom Angleberger and engaged in collaborative reasoning discussions to improve their social communication skills. Classes and activities were designed to help students meet the reading, speaking and listening Common Core standards for 4th grade. I also included the corresponding written reflections for each lesson. It is important to remember that as teachers, we can all look over our teaching practice and learn something new. In this way, my reflections allowed me to think about what went well during the lesson and why. As well as what did not go well and how I can improve in the future. Next, you will find formative and summative assessments that I created during my time teaching Literature Arts to elementary, middle and high school students in Korea. The summative assessments were used to document the culmination of students’ learning achievements through tasks that invited students to demonstrate their mastery and knowledge of the authentic reading material we studied in class. The formative assessments on the other hand enabled my students to learn through the process of feedback and provided them with opportunities to practice and improve before completing summative assessments. I created rubrics for the assignments to provide students with feedback and a score of exceeding expectations, meeting expectations, approaching expectations, and below expectations. Last, I hope you enjoy looking at photos illustrating my students’ achievements in their literature classes.
